Santa Catarina Fonte De Bispo is located in the area known as the ´ Barrocal´The area in between the coastal plane and the hills.
The towns origins date back to the 16th century.
Agriculture has always been the most predominant economic activity.
Subsistence farming originally predominated with vegetables, nuts,olives grown and on less rugged land wheat was cultivated. Nowadays this land is more likely to have given way to citrus groves.
As with most areas of Tavira, tourism is nowadays becoming more
important economically. The area is being promoted for it´s tranquility and remoteness.
Bird watching, walking and cycling are becoming more popular throughout this area and the rural areas of the Tavira hinterland provide ideal locations for these pursuits.
